George Stovold and Lettice Stone

[F6400]. George STOVOLD (STOVOLDE, STOFFOLDE, STOWFOLD, Stobbold). [ PC H3-1].
Born about 1555 in England. He married Lettice STONE [F6401] on 15 SEP 1583 at Albury, Surrey, England. This was the first Stovall marriage record in Albury. He was probably born in a neighboring parish. He may have been the brother, George Stovolde, mentioned in the will of Thomas Stovolde of Worplesdon, Surrey, England.

There appear to be numerous Stovold families surrounding the Guildford area, so the entire area should be checked. Worplesdon is on the outskirts of Guildford.

While a resident of Albury, George was recorded as a Pikeman on the county muster roll of 29 JAN 1583-4. George STOFFOLDE of Cranley (now Cranleigh) signed his will with his mark on 13 FEB 1609-1610. He died 15 FEB 1609-1610 at Cranley, Surrey, England. The executors of his will were his wife Lettice and his son John. He bequeathed money to his sons George, who was under 21, and to Thomas. His son John received a lease on a tenement in the parish of Albury. The will was proved by his executors in the Archdeaconry Court of Surrey, England on 5 APR 1610.
