Matthew de Bessiles and Elizabeth de Averenges

HUSBAND:
Matthew de Bessiles. (Mathias-S7) (Bezill-S7).
Born about 1250 in Bocland, Berkshire, England; son of Matthew de Bessiles and Beatrice. (S1,S3,S4).

His father held the manors of Sherston Magna in Wiltshire, Alfington in Devonshire, and lands in Gloucestershire. (7).

He was constable of Gloucester Castle and Dover Castle. (S7).

He married Elizabeth de Averenges about 1280 in Bocland Leigh, Berkshire, England. (S1,S3). The were definitely married by July 1272. (S7).

He died (about 1295-S1)(in 1295-S3,S4) at Bocland Leigh, Berkshire, England. (S1,S3).

WIFE:
Elizabeth de Averenges. (Avranches-S7).
Born (about 1255-S2,S4,S8)(in 1255-S1) in Bromland, Somersetshire, England (S1,S2,S4)(in Berkshire-S8); daughter of John de Averenges and Amice. (S2,S4).

Elizabeth as an heiress brought to the marriage several parcels of land. (S7).

Brompton Regis was held of the King in chief for ľ knithts fee in right of Elizabethís inheritance. In 1276 Mathias claimed the manorial rights for himself despite the priorís claims that they had held the right in grant. It does not seem as if the family ever lived in Brompton Regis, as it was some 125 miles from the rest of their property which was centered around the Oxfordshire/Berkshire county border.

She died in 1315 in Berkshire, England. (S8).
