John Adams and Agnes (Stone?)

HUSBAND:
John ADAMS. [PC M4-23].
Born (about 1555-S6)(on 1 January 1555) in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England; son of Henry ADAMS and (Rose?). He was christened on 7 August 1595 in St Botolph, A, Somersetshire, England.

John Adams lived all his life in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, where he was a husbandman, succeeding to his father's occupancy of the copy-hold land.

He married Agnes, (possibly STONE-S1)(STONE-S2,S3) on 1 February 1575 in England.

At the age of 40 he became administrator of his father's estate. (S6).
Administration of the estate of his Father:
Barton David 1596. Henry Adams Account. on the 12th day of the said month of August administration of the goods, etc. of the said Henry Adams, deceased intestate, was granted by the surrogate last named to John Adams, his natural and lawful son, being properly sworn, etc., savingthe right [of the Queen] etc., and an inventory is exhibited of the value of £22-2-0.
Barton David 8 Jan. 1596/7. Henry Adams. A proclamation to summon the creditors of the above named haney Adams deceased etc. to appear on 2 March ensuingto prove their claims, before the rector of Barton David aforesaid and also the bailiff of the market to be held at Glastonbury, in the parish church there, in public to be announced and declared. (S12).

J. Gardner Bartlett says: On 27 May 1597 John Adams became bondsman for Agnes, widow of John Stone of Barton David, executrix of the will of her late husband and it is not improbable that this record may indicate a relationship usual in such circumstances. The wife of John Adams was named Agnes and she may have been a daughter of John Stone and he became surety for his mother-in-law, a common occurrence. (S6).

He made his will on 19 March 1603-1604 and was buried 22 March 1603-1604.(S4) in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.(S?).

He died after 22 March 1603-1604 at Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.(S5).
His will was proved 19 March 1603-1604. He was buried on 22 March 1603 in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.(S?).

[NOTE: There are obviously problems with these dates. More careful research needs to be done here. See also the information below for Agnes, and indications that the dates for John and Richard are being mixed together. RAM]

WIFE:
Agnes, possibly STONE. [PC M4-23].
Born on 1 January 1556 in Barton, St. David, Somersetshire, England; daughter of John STONE and Agnes. (S?). She was christened in 1556 in Barton, St David, Somersetshire, England.

She married John ADAMS in 1575 in England.

She is said to have married (2) Richard ADAMS in (1576-S2)(1578-S3) in Somersetshire, England, but husband John didnít die until 1604. This makes it probable that her last name is not STONE, as she must be a different Agnes than married Richard. It is also apparent that the dates for Richard and John are being mixed together:
Richard ADAMS, son of Henry Adams and Rose, was born in 1552 in Barton, St. David, Somerset, England.
He was christened on 7 August 1595 in Barton, St David, Somerset, England.
He married Agnes STONE in 1578 in Somersetshire, England. (S3). He married Margaret ARMAGER.
He died on 19 March 1604 in Barton, St. David, Somerset, England.
He was buried on 22 March 1603 in Barton, St David, Somerset, England. [RAM]

Agnes died on 15 January 1615 in Barton, St. David, Somersetshire, England. She was buried on 15 January 1616 in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.
